Packaging design for Al Dente pasta tester

I was given the challenge by Nasir Kassamali, owner of Luminaire, to create unique packaging for a Hugo Pott Al Dente pasta tester as a holiday gift for 250 clients. My first idea was to include an authentic Italian pasta along with the gift for immediate enjoyment. I requested a larger black box for the Al Dente from Hugo Pott than usually provided, as close to the pasta bag dimensions as possible, and the quality of a hat box. I knew of a wonderfully delicious spaghetti, Martelli's, sold at a European supermarket in Chicago and decided to include it, carefully taking the measurements of the bag as a guide in determining the size of the box. I had cooked the pasta many times and knew it was delicious, but I also appreciated the bold graphics and color of the bag as part of my design. I purchased black rubber ribbon, resembling a noodle of spaghetti, and used it to tie the Al Dente tester to the pasta bag itself. Using a high resolute image of the Al Dente from Hugo Pott's marketing department, I designed an enclosure card that would be seen when you first open the box to best communicate the product and give the holiday message from Luminaire. The image was printed on black vellum by the graphic designer at Luminaire and custom cut to fit perfectly inside the box. Lastly, a matt, black tissue paper was precisely folded to enclose the gift in the special box printed with the Hugo Pott logo.
