I was seldom able to see an opportunity until it has ceased to be one. -- Mark Twain
In this design challenge we were to expand one version of the Jenga 1.o scheme by adding an additional floor to accommodate a second sleeping space and a working space. My particular unit of Jenga 1.o that was chosen incorporated the element of floatation as an expression of the concept levitate. Keeping with the essence of floatation I decided to add a floating staircase in wood to access the 2nd level. It continued a sense of lightness that carried throughout the overall unit. The enclosed space for the second level (either above or below the current scheme) was to encompasses 50% of the area of the original unit. In my design the floor in the 2nd story is surrounded by a glass panel that overlooks the first story below. Adding the glass panel accentuates lightness and dematerialization. The 2nd story space is kept open in feel with the addition of a partition wall separating the sleeping area that hints at more beyond. In our deliverables pictured below I created a floor plan of each of the two stories, sections that cut through both stories, ceiling plans, and a physical model.

Precedents
The precedent images capture a sense of lightness and dematerialization that inspired the access pathway to the second story.
