Decisive Adherence of Light
In this assignment we were to explore the power of light as revealed in architecture through the interplay of natural and electrical illumination. We were challenged to design an interior within a space measuring a maximum of 12'x12'x12' in volume to study the interaction of light and form. Taking inspiration from Tadao Ando in the architectural expression of beauty, simplicity and impact, our team designed a lighting strategy to be accentuated in a manipulated form.

Design concept and lighting strategy
As you approach the manipulated architectural shell, overlapping gestural planes positioned at the entry create a vertical light path into the space. The subtle angles and light reveal of the entrance suggest a spiritual lighting experience within. As you navigate inside the introduction of voids at the adjacent corners provides repetition and unity as a play of light penetrating into the space. The lighting experience leads you to explore beyond the intersecting wall. The integration of indirect electrical lighting (LEDs) behind an angled wall panel emits a soft glow creating a sense of mystery hidden within. The light revealed through the composition of skewd planes, exposed voids, and manipulated surfaces defines the subtle experience. A custom designed minimal table is placed to suggest a communal living area. The stainless steel surface of the table offers captivation of light through the reflection of voids across the interior. A peep hole in the roof allows for expanded views of light's greatest impact in the space.
